The First Annual GERD Fest - September 2013

KK and D:  Our parents are secretly pretty fun.  There is no mistaking it after you see these pictures and hear about their weekend.   Apparently, Mommy, Daddy and all their friends from Daddy's college had such a blast at Akers' Wedding in Buffalo, NY that they wanted to make sure it was at least an annual event - thus the creation of this weekend.  What started out as the first annual Davis Friends Reunion turned into something that they have named "Gerd Fest". According to the rumors, one of the friends partied so hard in Buffalo that she suffered afterwards from horrible stomach problems called the "GERD".    Here was the kick-off email to give you some indication of the debauchery...

"Friends, Comrades, Drunks and Lushes,

The commencement of a new tradition is only days away and the anticipation is growing.  I strongly urge you sleep well this week and begin your drinking training as this weekend is guaranteed to be a time of drinking, eating, drinking, playing, drinking, sleeping, eating, playing, drinking and some more drinking.  Did I mention that we are going to eat and drink a lot?
Now that your adrenaline is staring to rush (while your liver has already started to whimper), let me shed some light on this weekend's activities.

Friday
Morning libations: Coffee (spiked, if one so desires), muffins and fruit at our house
Morning activity: Stroll around Balboa Island so that one can slowly let go of the stressful week and long drive as they ease into the weekend

Afternoon libations:  Lunch at our house
Afternoon activity: Disneyland baby!  (We pulled a few strings and are getting everyone in for free!!)
Evening libations:  Rib-eye steaks, sautéed mushrooms and onions, pilaf, and salad
Evening activity: Drinking and drinking games in the backyard and around the fire pit

Saturday
Morning libations:  Homemade blueberry pancakes, fruit salad, mimosas and coffee (spiked, if one so desires)
Morning activity: Recovering from the night before while watching football

Afternoon libations:  Lunch at Bear Flag Tacos for fish tacos or sandwiches at home depending on peoples' desires
Afternoon activity:  Beach Time!!  We'll have surf boards, toys and games while we chill on Newport Beach and try to rest up for the evening's activity
Evening libations:  Appetizers and drinks on the Duffy followed by dinner at Bluewater Grill
Evening activity:  Harbor cruise on Duffy followed by more drinking and drinking games at home
Sunday
Morning libations:  Egg casserole, bagels and coffee
Morning activity:  Hit the road
If we stick to the plan - great!  And, if there are other things we want to add/subtract, that's great too!  Just let us know.   
Weather is going to be High: 78 degrees, Low: 64 degrees.  We'll mostly be in shorts/tshirts/flip flops during the day, and layer at night.   Bring comfortable walking shoes for Disney, swimsuit for the beach.   We need one more Aerobed with sheets & pillows, if someone can please bring that down.   Also, please bring your own pillows to ensure we have enough.  Otherwise, we are set to go!"

And then this happened....

 Cases and cases of wine appeared at our doorstep and we got shipped off to Nana's house for our first-ever sleep over at her place.   Let me tell you, we lucked out and had the best weekend ever! 

 Ok, NOT fair.  They headed to Disneyland on Friday - without us?!?! 

 Star Wars, Space Mountain - all the adult highlights were covered.

Here's the evidence...a note from Joey after the weekend was over...

"So had just about the worst morning I can remember in recent times.......

1. no one made me blueberry pancakes or egg casserole for breakfast

2. had to pour my own coffee out of a pot, no latte to be found

3. my liver was screaming at me as I wasn't able to beat it into submission with a bottle of wine

4. There is no duffy ride to look forward to at the end of the day

5. I'm going to have to huddle six candles together on the counter to roast my marshmellows for desert

Not sure how i'm going to make it through the end of the week..............

Thank you Tyler and Kerstin for being such wonderful hosts and touring us around Newport, I know you'll think of us every time you drive home and see the new foot long trench dug into the asphalt in front of the driveway.

Great to see everyone and spend some quality time.  Joe, don't forget to rotate the tires on the mini-van!
